Make a Difference Day
at Lydgate Park

The new Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Sports Park at Lydgate Park featuring three full-size sports fields have been completed and the facility was blessed on September 18, 2009.

On National Make a Difference Day, October 17, 2009 the second and final phase of our tree planting program around the sports fields will be completed. Funding assistance was provided by the Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program.

A volunteer workday on Saturday, October 25, 2008 was devoted to planting the first phase of shade trees around the fields in observance of Make A Difference Day. Volunteer registration began at 7:30 AM at the sports fields. Refreshments and donated lunch were served.

Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of helping others—a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park plan a variety of tasks each year for the workday suited to all ages and physical abilities.

During last year's Make A Difference Day (Saturday, October 25, 2008) 80 volunteers participated in planting trees in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Sports Park in Lydgate Park. In a few years those trees will shelter and provide shade for spectators at the fields.

Future soccer fields
