Site Preparation begun on Kamalani Pavilion
The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park have started the first phase of the
Kamalani Pavilion construction. The building site, just North of the Kamalani
Kai Bridge in Lydgate Park, was graded on March 8, and concrete foundation
footings have been poured.
"This work is being completed before the March 18 kick off of the volunteer
build," said General Coordinator Thomas Noyes, "so that when architect Bob
Leathers and the volunteers begin the community build on Thursday, March 18,
they can get right into framing the Pavilion.
"A few experienced carpenters are needed on Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March
19 to get the framing well advanced before the weekend of March 20," Noyes
continued. "Any community minded carpenters willing to volunteer on one or both
of those days should call me at 639-1018, or the YWCA at 245-5959. All
volunteers will be well fed and greatly appreciated. Since building new fences
to separate play areas from the beach access route under the Kamalani Kai Bridge
has been added to the scope of work for this community build, it is essential
that large numbers of volunteers come to the build."
All volunteers of any skill level are welcomed starting March 18 right on
through the twenty-one day community build. In order to help the Friends plan
food service, anyone wishing to volunteer is asked to call the YWCA of Kauai at
245-5959 to sign up for a morning (8:00 AM to noon) or afternoon (1:00 PM to
5:00 PM) work session. Coffee and refreshments are offered at 7:30 AM each
morning, and lunch is served daily at noon for all volunteers.
Please call the YWCA of Kauai at 254-5959 to volunteer or log on to
www.kamalani.org for more information.
